    Targeted Attacks: Redefining Spear Phishing and Business Email Compromise

    In today's digital world, cybercrime is responsible for significant damage to organizations, including financial losses, operational disruptions, or intellectual property theft. Cyberattacks often start with an email, the major means of corporate communication. Some rare, severely damaging email threats - known as spear phishing or Business Email Compromise - have emerged. However, the literature disagrees on their definition, impeding security vendors and researchers from mitigating targeted attacks. Therefore, we introduce targeted attacks. We describe targeted-attack-detection techniques as well as social-engineering methods used by fraudsters. Additionally, we present text-based attacks - with textual content as malicious payload - and compare non-targeted and targeted variants

    Live Blog Corpus for Summarization

    Live blogs are an increasingly popular news format to cover breaking news and live events in online journalism. Online news websites around the world are using this medium to give their readers a minute by minute update on an event. Good summaries enhance the value of the live blogs for a reader but are often not available. In this paper, we study a way of collecting corpora for automatic live blog summarization. In an empirical evaluation using well-known state-of-the-art summarization systems, we show that live blogs corpus poses new challenges in the field of summarization. We make our tools publicly available to reconstruct the corpus to encourage the research community and replicate our results.Comment: To appear in the Proceedings of LREC 201

    C-terminal phosphorylation of NaV1.5 impairs FGF13-dependent regulation of channel inactivation

    International audienceVoltage-gated Na(+) (NaV) channels are key regulators of myocardial excitability, and Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII)-dependent alterations in NaV1.5 channel inactivation are emerging as a critical determinant of arrhythmias in heart failure. However, the global native phosphorylation pattern of NaV1.5 subunits associated with these arrhythmogenic disorders and the associated channel regulatory defects remain unknown. Here, we undertook phosphoproteomic analyses to identify and quantify in situ the phosphorylation sites in the NaV1.5 proteins purified from adult WT and failing CaMKIIδc-overexpressing (CaMKIIδc-Tg) mouse ventricles. Of 19 native NaV1.5 phosphorylation sites identified, two C-terminal phosphoserines at positions 1938 and 1989 showed increased phosphorylation in the CaMKIIδc-Tg compared with the WT ventricles. We then tested the hypothesis that phosphorylation at these two sites impairs fibroblast growth factor 13 (FGF13)-dependent regulation of NaV1.5 channel inactivation. Whole-cell voltage-clamp analyses in HEK293 cells demonstrated that FGF13 increases NaV1.5 channel availability and decreases late Na(+) current, two effects that were abrogated with NaV1.5 mutants mimicking phosphorylation at both sites. Additional co-immunoprecipitation experiments revealed that FGF13 potentiates the binding of calmodulin to NaV1.5 and that phosphomimetic mutations at both sites decrease the interaction of FGF13 and, consequently, of calmodulin with NaV1.5. Together, we have identified two novel native phosphorylation sites in the C terminus of NaV1.5 that impair FGF13-dependent regulation of channel inactivation and may contribute to CaMKIIδc-dependent arrhythmogenic disorders in failing hearts

    Diagnostic Benefit of High b-Value Computed Diffusion-Weighted Imaging in Patients with Hepatic Metastasis

    Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) has rapidly become an essential tool for the detection of malignant liver lesions. The aim of this study was to investigate the usefulness of high b-value computed DWI (c-DWI) in comparison to standard DWI in patients with hepatic metastases. In total, 92 patients with histopathologic confirmed primary tumors with hepatic metastasis were retrospectively analyzed by two readers. DWI was obtained with b-values of 50, 400 and 800 or 1000 s/mm2 on a 1.5 T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanner. C-DWI was calculated with a monoexponential model with high b-values of 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000 and 5000 s/mm2. All c-DWI images with high b-values were compared to the acquired DWI sequence at a b-value of 800 or 1000 s/mm2 in terms of volume, lesion detectability and image quality. In the group of a b-value of 800 from a b-value of 2000 s/mm2, hepatic lesion sizes were significantly smaller than on acquired DWI (metastases lesion sizes b = 800 vs. b 2000 s/mm2: mean 25 cm3 (range 10–60 cm3) vs. mean 17.5 cm3 (range 5–35 cm3), p < 0.01). In the second group at a high b-value of 1500 s/mm2, liver metastases were larger than on c-DWI at higher b-values (b = 1500 vs. b 2000 s/mm2, mean 10 cm3 (range 4–24 cm3) vs. mean 9 cm3 (range 5–19 cm3), p < 0.01). In both groups, there was a clear reduction in lesion detectability at b = 2000 s/mm2, with hepatic metastases being less visible compared to c-DWI images at b = 1500 s/mm2 in at least 80% of all patients. Image quality dropped significantly starting from c-DWI at b = 3000 s/mm2. In both groups, almost all high b-values images at b = 4000 s/mm2 and 5000 s/mm2 were not diagnostic due to poor image quality. High c-DWI b-values up to b = 1500 s/mm2 offer comparable detectability for hepatic metastases compared to standard DWI. Higher b-value images over 2000 s/mm2 lead to a noticeable reduction in imaging quality, which could hamper diagnosis

    What is the value of fibre-endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) in neurological patients? Across-sectional hospital-based registry study

    Objectives Fibre-endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) to detect dysphagia is gaining more and more importance as a diagnostic tool. Therefore, we have investigated the impact of FEES in neurological patients in a clinical setting. Design Cross-sectional hospital-based registry. Setting Primary acute care in a neurological department of a German university hospital. Participants 241 patients with various neurological diseases who underwent FEES procedure. Primary and secondary outcome measures Dysphagia and related comorbidities. Results 267 FEES were performed in 241 patients with various neurological diagnoses. Dysphagia was diagnosed in 68.9% of the patients. In only 33.1% of the patients, appropriate oral diet was chosen prior to FEES. A relevant dysphagia occurred more often in patients with structural brain lesions (83.1 % vs 65.3%, P=0.001), patients with dysphagia had a longer hospitalisation (median 18 (IQR 12-30) vs 15 days (IQR 9.75-22.75), P=0.005) and had a higher mortality (8.4% vs 1.3%, P=0.041). When the oral diet was changed, we observed a lower pneumonia rate (36% vs 50%, P=0.051) and a lower mortality (3.7% vs 11.3%, P=0.043) in comparison to no change of oral diet. A restriction of oral diet was identified more often in older patients (median 75 years (IQR 66.3-82 years) vs median 72 years (IQR 60-79 years), P=0.01) and in patients with structural brain lesions (86.8% vs 73.1 %, P=0.05). Conclusion On clinical investigation, dysphagia was misjudged for the majority of the patients. FEES might help to compensate this drawback, revising the diet regime in nearly 70% of the patients
